Maintenance Programs

Restile provides a maintenance program particularly important for natural stone installations.

We offer a service unequalled by our competitors. We attend each job at predetermined times, to reassess the performance of treated surfaces to ensure they are still adequately protected. At the time of inspection, minor stains are removed and the surface is cleaned and/or resealed as required.

Similar to the maintenance of a swimming pool, our service ensures that the surface areas always remain in pristine condition, removing the worry of having to look after delicate surfaces such as natural stone, particularly those exposed to the elements.

Tile and natural stone floors continue to grow in popularity due in large part to their durability and ease of maintenance. Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your floor and protect your investment. While all surfaces should be periodically cleaned by a professional, there are a number of things that the home or building owner can do to improve the appearance of the surface and reduce the frequency of professional cleaning.

Glazed Tile

  1. Glazed Ceramic Floor Tile is one of the most lasting and maintenance free surfacing.
  2. It requires no special surface treatment other than regular sweeping, vacuuming and washing with a mild soap less cleaner and water or an approved commercial cleaner.
  3. The type of commercial product should be grout joint cleaning compatible.
  4. Baths & Showers: Use a multipurpose spray cleaner, which removes soap scum, hard water deposits and mildew. The entire area should be rinsed with clean water to remove any cleaning residue (RESTILE – BATHROOM BUDDY).
  5. Routine cleaners should never contain acids or ammonia as they may damage the tile or grout.

Unglazed Tiles

  1. Unglazed tile should be cleaned routinely with concentrated tile cleaners that have a neutral pH for safe regular use.
  2. These cleaners are better suited at removing grease, oils and normal spills from unglazed products.
  3. Again these products will vary depending on the application, amount of traffic and the use.
  4. The product chosen should also be compatible with cleaning the grout joints at the same time.

Natural Stone Car & Maintenance

  1. To insure your natural stone products will provide you with a lifetime of aesthetics and utility, a proper maintenance program is crucial.
  2. Natural Stone products are porous by nature and require a different maintenance program than traditional ceramic tile.
  3. Many of the cleaners acceptable for use on ceramic tile can stain, damage or dull stone. Dirt and dust will scratch the surface of stone. Therefore, stone floors should be vacuumed or dust mopped frequently to remove abrasive agents from the stone surface.
  4. Natural stone should be cleaned with neutral cleaners. Stone cleaners should never contain acid or bleach. Acids, even a light solution of vinegar and water, will etch and eventually damage natural stone.

Stone Cleaners

  1. Only use cleaners specifically designed for cleaning stone. These cleaners contain no acids and are concentrated neutral pH cleaners that will not affect the natural stones polished finish (RESTILE – STONE DEEP CLEAN).
  2. The surface of the stone should be dampened with clear water. This will keep the cleaning solution on the surface so it can be effective.
  3. A solution of the cleaner and water to the manufacturer instructions should be applied to the stone surface with a sponge or mop. Mop up dirty solution and buff dry.
  4. Regular polishing will be required, depending on volume of surface traffic and consistency, a routine maintenance program is recommended.

Grout Maintenance

  1. Neither sealing the grout nor using a 100% Epoxy Grout will guarantee against surface build-up or discolouration of the grout. Grout needs to be cleaned on a periodic basis to remove any surface build-up.
